This question belongs to class 10 Math jkbose from chapter 5, exercise 5.1 and Question 1 and part third

Question 1. In which of the following situations does the list of numbers involved make an arithmetic progression and why?

iii. The cost of digging a well after every metre of digging, when it costs Rs 150 for the first metre and rises by Rs 50 for each subsequent metre.

Solution: Given: Rs 150 for the first meter.
                               Rs 50 for each subsequent meter.

Now,
         Cost of well for the first metre = 150 (A1)
          Cost of well for the second metre = 150 + 50= 200 (A2)
             Cost of well for the third metre = 150 + 50 + 50 = 250 (A3)

                               To check

Difference = A2 - A1
                    = 200 - 150
                     = 50
Again

Difference= A3 - A2
                    = 250 - 200
                     = 50

Hence, it forms an AP (Arithmetic Progression) because the difference is same.
